WMSF Florida Association of Broadcasters Scholarship

Established through a matching commitment between WMSF and FAB, the scholarship supports undergraduate students enrolled at accredited Florida colleges and universities who are pursuing careers in broadcasting, journalism, media, communications, and related fields.
The Florida Association of Broadcasters (FAB) represents Florida’s radio and television broadcasters and is committed to protecting, promoting, and advancing the interests of the broadcast industry throughout the state. Through advocacy, education, and workforce development initiatives, FAB supports broadcasters while helping cultivate the next generation of industry professionals.

Criteria

An ideal candidate would demonstrate:
  • Open exclusively to undergraduate students enrolled at accredited Florida colleges and universities who are pursuing degrees in broadcasting, journalism, communications, media, or other related fields.
  • Applicants are evaluated based on academic achievement, financial need, and demonstrated commitment to a career in broadcasting. This commitment may be reflected through relevant coursework, internships, campus media involvement, leadership, community service, or clearly defined career goals within the broadcast and media industry.

Essay:

Scholarship Essay Guidelines (500 words maximum, double-spaced)

Help us get to know you! Please write an essay that includes all four areas below:

1. Academic Background Your university, graduation date, major/minor, and relevant activities

2. Financial Need Why you need financial assistance and how this scholarship would help

3. Upcoming Coursework Courses you’ll take this year and how they connect to your career goals

4. Career Goals Your professional objectives and how your academics and experience prepare you for success

Strong applications clearly connect academic plans, experiences, and career goals. We’re excited to support your journey

Letter of Recommendation:

One letter from a professor, advisor or other home university official OR from a mentor or previous employer who can attest to your enthusiasm and ability to have a successful career in the media industry. The letter should be signed and on letterhead.

Resume:

Applicants should upload a current, professional resume.

The Washington Media Scholars Foundation will contact finalists for a phone interview before the distributions are announced.

Receiving the WMSF scholarship has been an incredible honor and a meaningful step toward my career goals in political communication. I aspire to work in Washington, D.C., using media and messaging to drive positive change, whether through government, advocacy or strategic communications. This scholarship has helped relieve financial pressure on my family and allowed me to keep gaining valuable experience through internships and campus leadership.
