Washington Media Scholars Foundation and Florida Association of Broadcasters Announce Inaugural WMSF-FAB Scholarship Recipients

The Washington Media Scholars Foundation (WMSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting undergraduate students pursuing careers in media, communications, and public policy, and the Florida Association of Broadcasters (FAB) today announced the inaugural recipients of the WMSF-FAB Scholarship.

Established through a matching commitment between WMSF and FAB, the scholarship supports undergraduate students enrolled at accredited Florida colleges and universities who are pursuing careers in broadcasting, journalism, media, communications, and related fields. Scholarship funds are distributed directly to each recipient’s college or university.

The 2026–2027 academic year marks the first scholarship cycle of the partnership, with awards presented during both the Fall and Spring semesters. This inaugural class recognizes five outstanding students who have demonstrated academic excellence, financial need, and a strong commitment to pursuing careers in broadcast media.

“We are excited to launch this partnership with the Florida Association of Broadcasters and recognize five exceptional students in its first year,” said Robin D. Roberts, Founder and CEO of the Washington Media Scholars Foundation. “By investing in these future media professionals today, we are helping strengthen the industry for years to come.”

The inaugural WMSF-FAB Scholarship recipients are:

  • Nyla K. Wright – Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University
  • Toni Woods – Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University
  • Jordan Gray – Lynn University
  • Sofiia Shcherbakova – Southeastern University
  • Krystal Felix – University of Florida

“Florida’s broadcasters are only as strong as the talent coming up behind us,” said Heather Lomagistro, President and CEO of the Florida Association of Broadcasters. “This scholarship is a direct investment in students who want to build careers in our industry. We believe deeply in WMSF’s mission and are proud to partner in supporting the next generation of broadcasters.”

The new scholarship builds on WMSF’s longstanding commitment to developing future media leaders. Since 2009, the Foundation has awarded scholarships and professional development opportunities to more than 1,000 undergraduate students representing over 300 colleges and universities nationwide. The WMSF-FAB Scholarship extends that mission into Florida, reinforcing both organizations’ shared commitment to preparing the next generation of media professionals.

Applications for the Spring 2027 WMSF-FAB Scholarship open July 31, 2026, and close December 6, 2026. Undergraduate students enrolled at accredited Florida colleges and universities who are pursuing careers in broadcasting, journalism, media, communications, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
