2020 Case Competition Finalists Selected!

Congratulations to our 2020 Media Scholars Case Competition Finalists! These 6 student teams have worked diligently on their media plans since the qualifying round opened in September 2019. Since then, supported by their academic advisors, they have created complete media plans from budgeting to strategy and data analysis, based on a real-word case scenario. These teams beat out many other student teams from schools across the country to reach this point.

We are pleased to share the 2020 Media Plan Case Competition Finalists:

  • GP Media – Temple University

  • Bell Bottom Media – Iowa State University

  • Heizelman & Price – Stephen F. Austin State and Wichita State
    • Students: Anne Marie Price (SFASU; ‘20) and Tyler Heizelman (Wichita; ‘22)
    • Advisors: Marlene Kahla (SFASU), Professor of Management and Marketing, and Dorothy Harpool (Wichita), Director of Student and Community Initiative
  • Bearcat Counseling – Binghamton University
    • Students: Alexander Lai (‘20) and Erik Zhao (‘20)
    • Advisor: Danielle Dunne, Associate Professor of Management
  • Higgins & Hopkirk – University of Notre Dame
    • Students: Steve Higgins (‘20) and Gretchen Hopkirk (‘20)
    • Advisor: Ken Goldstein, Professor of Political Science
  • Gamecocks – University of South Carolina
    • Students: Jack Landess (‘20) and James Bush (‘20)
    • Advisor: Linwan Wu, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication

On June 11th, student teams will present their final media plans to our panel of expert professional judges. We extend our thank our current confirmed judges for volunteering their time and sharing their expertise in advance.  Confirmed judges include:

  • Nicole Elie, Senior Political Sales Specialist at CBS TV Station Sales
  • Jackie Huelbig, Senior Account Lead of Candidates and Causes at Centro
  • Tripp McLaughlin, Adjunct Professor, Integrated Marketing & Communications, Georgetown University and Hotel Brand Strategy Expert

$18,500 in scholarships will be awarded to the first place team, second runner up team in the 2020 competition.  Also, the second-ever Mia Guion Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an individual team member.
